A bit nervous about your first session?
That’s completely normal.
When you come to a counselling session with me, you’ll find a space where you are seen as a person, not a problem. Over the past 16 years in private practice, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, families, and businesses, supporting children, adolescents, and adults. One thing I’ve learned is that everyone appreciates a kind and gentle space to explore their feelings—whether it’s sadness, loss, worry, grief, anger, confusion, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, helplessness, or hopelessness.
When you arrive, there’s no crowded waiting room or clinical sterility—just a warm, private space where I’ll personally welcome you to begin building a healing therapeutic relationship.
If you prefer online counselling, you can join me in a secure Zoom Room from the comfort of your office, dining table, or even your local park, ensuring the same safe and personal connection wherever you are.
Your First Session
Before your session, I’ll ask you to complete a simple online intake form to help me understand the situations and challenges that you’re dealing with.
The first session often includes some psycho-education to ensure we’re therapeutically on the same page. This also provides you a fresh perspective on your challenges—reducing the burdens of blame, guilt, or shame.
As we move through the session, I’ll introduce techniques designed to create a safe and supportive therapeutic space, allowing you to more safely and gently explore the layers of your challenges. These techniques also often lead to moments of rapid insight and awareness. The process feels more like a conversation with a trusted friend who seems to know you well, even though we’ve only just begun.
By the end of the session, you’ll likely feel a sense of relief from being seen and understood and you’ll leave with a renewed sense of hope and practical, tailored strategies to begin your journey of change.
While the integration of various therapeutic approaches may feel seamless, I’ll always be transparent about what I observe and the methods I believe will best support your progress.
Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and delightful at the end.
Ongoing Support
Our therapeutic relationship doesn’t end when you leave the session. With your permission, I’ll follow up within the week to check in, address any concerns, and celebrate the positive changes you’re making. This narrative therapy technique ensures you feel supported every step of the way.
