Relationship counselling Melbourne – therapy for couples and individuals at Camberwell

Relationship Counselling Hervey Bay

Relationship counselling in Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast

I see couples face to face in my counselling room in Burrum Heads, about 25 minutes from Hervey Bay and Maryborough, and online right across Australia.

Face to face sessions run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with Wednesdays by arrangement. If those days do not suit, contact me to explore whether additional times are available.

I have over 20 years of clinical experience, and I have been named one of Melbourne’s 3 Best Rated counselling services for the past 7 consecutive years. I moved north during COVID and still see Melbourne clients online and face to face every 6 to 8 weeks. However, country life is not new to me. Rural Queensland is where I grew up and lived a large part of my life, and it is good to be back.

Professional relationship help,

without the drive to Brisbane

On the Fraser Coast the choice of relationship counsellors is naturally fewer than in a capital city, and in a close community seeking relationship therapy can feel really vulnerable. So a lot of couples put it off for years, or wait until things are at breaking point. You should not have to do either.

My room is private, with no public identification, and private parking at the door. If being seen is a worry, online sessions from your own lounge room work just as well for relationship work, often better, because you are working on your relationship issues in the place they actually happen.

What couples bring to me

Couples from Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the Fraser Coast often come to me with:

  • No longer feeling seen, heard, respected or valued, let alone loved, in their relationship
  • Having the same argument on repeat, with no resolution
  • Feeling more like housemates than partners
  • When Adult ADHD is in the relationship, diagnosed or not
  • Rebuilding after an affair or a breach of trust
  • One partner is ready for counselling and the other unsure
  • Deciding whether they should stay, or go
  • Family disputes, estrangements and challenges

Relationship therapy Melbourne for romantic partnerships, family systems and self-connection

Where I can

help most

ADHD in relationships. ADHD shows up in a relationship long before it shows up in a GP’s office. One partner carries the load, the other often has no idea how heavy it is. I have extensive experience in helping couples and families navigate neurodiversity, and my free ADHD Relationship Quiz is a great place to start.

Narcissistic abuse and coercive control. When there is no bruise, it can take years to name what is happening. I help people make sense of it, create safety, and recover. I am extremely mindful of how therapy proceeds where I have a concern of toxic behaviours within the relationship. Your physical and emotional safety is paramount.

Codependency. If you are always the one holding everything together, my Codependency Quiz may show you more than you expect.

Life challenges, changes and family therapy. Blended families, a new baby, illness, loss and grief, family estrangement, LGBTQIA+ relationships and polyamory, or separating well and making a parenting plan that works. There isn’t much I haven’t worked with in my many years as a relationship therapist.

How

sessions work

I like to start with a free 15 minute chat, no pressure, so you can tell me a little of what is going on and see whether I am the right fit. If I am not, I will tell you honestly and point you to someone who may be.

Relationship sessions are 90 minutes, or 60 or 90 minutes individually when that is the better call. You both leave with a more compassionate understanding of each other and something to work on before next time. I use my own therapeutic approach, Tapping into Relationships — eft²®, which incorporates cutting edge neuroscience with the principles of attachment theory, making your therapeutic journey gentle, and yet transformative.

Why Choose This

Trauma-Informed Approach?

Unlike traditional “talk therapy” that can sometimes feel like an arduous journey of recycling old arguments, Tapping into Relationships – eft² helps you ensure your past experiences are healed, not ignored, as you build your future. I focus on helping you move from a state of survival to a state of connection and growth, prioritising emotional safety throughout the process. Book a free 15-minute chat. No agenda, no pressure — just a chance to tell me what’s going on and see whether I’m the right fit. If I’m not, I’ll tell you honestly and point you toward someone who is.

I cannot speak highly enough of Tess- her warmth, care and compassion, her intelligence and knowledge that she brings to every session are truly incredible. She draws on a wealth of experience and deep understanding. Tess has guided me through some very challenging times in my life, always with kindness, a non-judgemental attitude, curiosity and showing me how to act with compassion and love towards myself. I am very grateful for the journey that we have been on together and the deep work that we continue to do collaboratively. It has made such a difference to my life, to my interpersonal relationships and my relationship with myself. Her great sense of humour and reflections are a wonderful antidote. Thank you so much Tess!

My partner and I began seeing Tess for 'preventative' therapy when we started dating 2 years ago, and she has helped us to build an incredible foundation for our life together. Tess is compassionate and insightful, and we come out of every session with new insights that help us understand each other, and ourselves, better - even when we think we've analysed the problem from every angle, Tess surprises us with an insight that unlocks repair and healing. Tess has also taught us the power of tapping for self-regulation, and this has helped us de-escalate many situations before they escalate. Thank you so much Tess for being with us through our issues big and small!

A Wonderful experience- Looking forward to more Sessions I’ve had two sessions with Tess so far, and I’m genuinely excited to see where this journey takes me. My daughter recommended Tess after experiencing many sessions with her, and I can see why she speaks so highly of her. Tess has a reputation for being incredibly kind and effective, and she truly lives up to it. From the very beginning, Tess made me feel comfortable and heard. She has a unique ability to connect and get to the heart of what’s important to me, which felt almost intuitive. It’s like she has a sixth sense for understanding how I feel and what I need. Her approach is a beautiful balance of compassion, expertise and experience kind, she’s non-judgmental in a way that allows me to be completely open without fear of criticism. Her knowledge is vast, and it’s clear that she has a wealth of experience to draw from. But what stands out most is her ability to tailor her techniques to fit my personal situation. I feel like I’m in very capable hands, and I can already sense the positive shifts after just a couple of sessions. I’m looking forward to continuing my work with Tess and seeing where the process leads. If you’re looking for someone who combines warmth with expertise, Tess is definitely someone you should consider.

I’m deeply grateful for the support and healing Tess has facilitated in me. Through our work together, I’ve experienced profound growth in both my interpersonal relationships and the relationship I have with myself. My emotional regulation and communication with loved ones have improved significantly, and I feel more grounded and connected than ever. Tess has a remarkable ability to guide me to the deeper issues beneath the surface while ensuring I never feel too raw or exposed in the process. Her approach is both gentle and effective, creating a space that feels safe, compassionate, and transformative. I’ve recommended Tess to friends and family who have also experienced meaningful healing under her guidance. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Wow, where to start! I feel like I owe Tess so much; not only has she helped me see and deal with the toxicity that had surrounded me for so long, she has also helped me understand and embrace my true self. Tess’s gentle guidance, wisdom and empathy are a gift for anyone that needs help navigating relationships that don’t feel right. I can’t express how much Tess has helped me and can only recommend that you consider her for your counselling!

Tess clearly identified issues within my relationship immediately and more accurately than any other therapist had done before. She always works with kindness and offers a wholistic follow up and care.

FAQ

Yes. My room is in Burrum Heads, about 25 minutes from Hervey Bay and Maryborough. Face to face sessions are on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and Wednesdays by arrangement.

For relationship work it can often be superior. You are at home, where the arguments actually happen, there is no driving or babysitter to organise, and it doesn’t really matter where you live. As long as you have online access, you can have professional relationship therapy with me.

Whilst you can start on your own, my free 15 minute introductory Zoom calls convince many a resistant partner that relationship therapy really does have value, because they appreciate my academically informed, and yet no nonsense, approach.

Your safety comes first, and couples counselling is not the right place to start. Book a free introductory Zoom chat to discuss the safest way forward with me.

Or for immediate support, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.

In an emergency, call 000.

Many people wait until a crisis to seek help, however, the best time for relationship therapy is when you first notice recurring patterns —like feeling disconnected, having the same argument over and over, or noticing a loss of intimacy. If you’re feeling “stuck” or like you’re going in circles, professional support can help you break the cycle and find a way forward together.

The timeline varies depending on your unique situation. Through my Tapping into Relationships – eft²  approach, many couples notice initial improvements in communication within 2 to 6 sessions.

Yes. Relationship counselling is about the connections in your life, starting with the one you have with yourself. If your partner is not ready to attend, individual relationship therapy can help you understand your own patterns, set healthy boundaries, heal trauma and develop new ways of relating that can positively influence the dynamic.

Not at all. I support all forms of connection, including:

  • Family members (parent-child or siblings).
  • Friendships.
  • Work colleagues.
  • Individuals seeking to heal from past relationship trauma.

While traditional therapy often follows structured steps or predetermined stages, Tapping Into Relationships – eft² takes a more flexible, integrative approach. It focuses on the underlying emotional attachment and relational dynamics, using specialised techniques to foster emotional safety and build deep, empathic connections that create lasting change.

Yes. Relationship counselling can provide a safe space to separate with dignity. We focus on “conscious uncoupling” and creating respectful Parenting Plans to ensure that, while the romantic partnership may be ending, the family or co-parenting connection remains healthy and stable.
